Application
1. Glass Polishing
Glass Polishing: It is the most widely used application. Cerium oxide is the primary component in polishing powders used for fine grinding and polishing of optical lenses, mirrors, camera lenses, semiconductor wafers, and LCD screens.
2. Glass and Ceramics
Glass Decolorizer: Cerium oxide is added to glass to remove the greenish tint caused by iron impurities, making the glass clearer.
UV Protection: It is added to glass to absorb ultraviolet (UV) light, used in automotive glass, eyewear, and specialty containers to protect contents from UV damage.
Ceramic Glazes: Used as an opacifier and pigment in ceramic glazes to produce white or yellow hues.
3. Other Specialized Uses
Semiconductor Manufacturing: Used for Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) to polish silicon wafers.
