Germanium dioxide, in the molecular formula GeO2, is the Germanium oxide, in an electronic form similar to carbon dioxide. It is white powder or colorless crystal. There are two kinds of hexagonal system (stable at low temperature) and tetragonal system insoluble in water. The conversion temperature is 1033℃. Mainly used in the production of metal germanium, also used for spectral analysis and semiconductor materials.It is used in the production of optical fiber, infrared glass, phosphor, pharmaceutical immunity, PET catalyst, organic germanium, germanane and other materials.

Application:
1. Used for germanium, also used in the electronics industry. Used as semiconductor material. It is prepared by heating oxidation of germanium or hydrolysis of germanium tetrachloride.
2. Used as raw material for the preparation of metallic germanium and other germanium compounds, as catalyst for the preparation of polyethylene terephthalate resin, as well as as spectroscopic analysis and semiconductor materials. It can produce optical glass phosphors and be used as catalyst for petroleum conversion, dehydrogenation, adjustment of gasoline fractions, color film and polyester fiber production.
3. Not only so, germanium dioxide or polymerization catalyst, glass containing germanium dioxide has high refractive index and dispersion performance, as a wide Angle lens camera and microscope, with the development of technology, germanium dioxide is widely used in the production of high purity metal germanium, germanium compounds, chemical catalysts and pharmaceutical industry, PET resin, electronic devices, etc., need to pay attention to is the shape of the germanium dioxide though and organic germanium (Ge – 132), but it has toxicity, not taking.
